Our Abseil Adventure could be for you. Let our highly experienced and well trained instructors supervise you in this fantastic activity, all done in the beautiful Peak District Valley of Miller’s Dale. You’ll go home buzzing with excitement and pride that you had a go at this hair raising task! This Adventure is suitable for all ages – We have an AALA Licence to take unaccompanied Under 18s on Activity.

We have a licence awarded to us by the Peak District National Park Authority to use this 1ooft disused rail bridge for abseiling. The bridge structure is periodically check for safety by the National Park.

Totally unique and in a beautiful woodland setting, this is one of our most popular activities and suit able for any age or ability.

This activity is best done as part of a group and will need a minimum of four people to run. For a quick quote email al@gritstoneadventures.co.uk

This amazing and unique actvitity is a fanstastic group activity suitable for all abilitites, fitnesses and age. The activity is also a really good bad weather option as the bridge is in a sheltred location away from the wind and some of the weather. Abseiling itself is not badly affected by wet weather too so this is a great actvitity all year around. 

Bridge Abseiling Peak District is suitable for children, adults, stag and hen groups, youth groups, schools and corporate challnges. As with all our actvitities, we can adjust the difficulty of this activuty to suit your needs.

Why choose us?

We have 10 years of experience in taking people into the outdoors for adventure. Our instructors are all highly qualified local experts who are selected not only for their vast experience, but also for their calm, approachable manner and ability to relate well to people.

I’m an absolute beginner – is this for me?

Yes – we specialise in introducing people to outdoor activities for the first time.

Is equipment included?

Yes, all equipment is included in the price.

Can you tailor the abseil to our needs?

Yes, this is what we do. Our activities have structure but are very flexible and really, all our activities and training courses are flexible and adaptable. This is your day, not ours.

Where will we Abseil?

We have a licence to use Miller’s Dale viaduct SK17 8SN, awarded to us by the Peak District National Park, who safety check the bridge.

I’m not very fit – can I still do this?

Of course you can. We are very used to dealing with people of all ability and fitness. We can tailor your booking to suit you.

Can I do a half day instead of a full day?

Yes – the duration can be as short or long as you like and the price of your booking will reflect that. You can also do multiple days.

Do you provide transport?

I’m afraid we cannot provide transport, you will need your own. Speak to us about public transport options.

Amazing experience outdoor climbing! We came as a couple and had some experience although this was our first proper experience of outdoor climbing. Al gave us a thorough introduction and then catered the day to our needs, choosing routes which were challenging yet fun. We even had a brief introduction to lead climbing as that was something we were interested in. Learnt a lot and had an amazing time, always felt very safe. Went away from the day feeling excited about climbing in the future and definitely hope to have another day with Gritstone in the future!

Another great climbing course organised by Al at Gritstone (third one!), this time the Learn to Lead course. We were a group of four so were split between two instructors, Hannes (who we've been on a course with before) and Simon. Both proved to be amazing instructors and made the most of our first day at Stanage Edge knowing that the Sunday would be difficult due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. On the Sunday we suggested that we would get more out of a day at Awesome Walls in Sheffield away from the awful weather and they were able to put together a session looking at movement techniques, rope work, techniques for belaying a lead climber, etc, that was equally amazing. I came away almost glad the weather changed our plans as we were able to learn so much indoors. I cannot recommend Gritstone highly enough and we will be back again in the spring for the multi pitch climbing course.

I have very little climbing experience and Al and Chris got our whole group climbing routes that we never would have thought we could do, giving us confidence and motivation to tackle some very steep climbs and a really fun experience too

I just had a great weekend with 3 friends climbing and learning with Chris. This was my first time climbing outside, and with an easy and friendly manner, helpful advice and expert knowledge Chris made the weekend very enjoyable and informative. He was able to judge our ability well to put us on routes that were challenging but still achievable and fun. We all learned a lot and gained so much confidence is a really short time. We're already planning the next trip with gritstone.

Had a great few days climbing with Gritstone Adventure's. First day was with Al on the prepare to lead course. Al gave us a refresher and intro into what to expect with leading and took us on some climbs around the peaks to get us up to speed. The second and third day was on the learn to lead course with Charlie. Again built up our knowledge and confidence whilst highlighting safety at all times. Had a fantastic few days, both instructors were very knowledgeable, chilled and engaged with all our questions. The courses put us in good stead in having our first independent lead climb experience. Thanks Al and Charlie!!!

Fantastic day with private climbing for myself and my partner. We were beginners but Al was amazing at teaching us and choosing climbs that were fun and felt really great when we completed them. The entire day ran so smoothly and flew by. Al was very knowledgeable and taught us loads about the different types of climbing. It was a brilliant day that we would definitely do again.

Amazing experience. Al was a great instructor, very knowledgeable and patient. Accommodated to us as we had experienced climbers and newbies he even taught me how to lead climb at the end which is something I hadn’t done before. Highly recommend.

Fantastic day of climbing led by Chris. Our two teenagers thoroughly enjoyed the experience, learnt loads, and we were reassured by Chris’ expertise. We very much look forward to next time!
