Family Adventures Peak District: Gritstone Adventure Activities is not just for adults who seek adventures or training, we are also able to deliver top class Family Adventures. Gritstone founder Al Cash is a family man with 2 children and tests all of the Family Adventure activities out on his own 2 boys! Al is a former secondary school teacher and believes that the highest form of education is outdoor education.
Family adventures are a great way to do something different with your holiday here in the Peak District, at the same time challenging your little ones with mini (and sometimes not so mini) adventures. Our Family Adventures all take place in the beautiful and dramatic Peak District National Park while never being too far away from civilisation and great places to stay.
Any activity you choose for your family will be tailored to your needs, children’s ages and abilities. We Hold an AALA license, this is the HSE Licence to take under 18s on adventurous activities. Our instructors have all worked extensively with children and are the best in the business. Our instructors are not only chosen for their vast experience but for their approachable and fun manner and ability to get on well with people. We have it all here in the Peaks; views, climbing, walking, caving, splashing around in water, pretty stone villages and acres of campsite. Take a look at our activities below.

Take a look at our list of amazing family orientated activities below – each of them fit neatly into half a day. You may choose to do one of these activities in half day or any two of the activities in a full day. There is a maximum travel time of 30 minutes between each activity but some are much closer and some are walking distance apart.

Rock climbing here in the Peak holds endless opportunities for adventures for all abilities from children to novice parents and all the way up to world class level climbers. Rock Climbing is a fantastic physical and mental challenge for you and your children. Difficulty on the day will be tailored to your family’s needs.
We would be climbing on some of the most famous rock climbing cliffs in the UK, but don’t worry about your children not being able to climb, just tell us your children’s ages and a little about them and we’ll be able to take them on achievable climbs.
We are rock climbing specialists with vast local knowledge, we’ll be able to find the right Climbs for you all.

We are underground experts and our highly qualified local instructors will be able to take you on an amazing, adventurous and educational trip in an underground world. Trips can range from easy walks underground to descending rope and climbing ladders – but every challenge is optional. Children (and adults) gain so much from our caving experiences.
People, young and old, are understandably nervous about going underground for the first time and we are very well used to that. Our instructors are very patient and supportive people who’s aim is for all the members of your family to have an amazingly memorable day – for all the right reasons, and that’s what they’ll do.

Family Bridge Abseil

Bridge Abseiling Take on this unique experience with your children. This adventure involves abseiling from a 100ft disused and safety checked rail bridge. There are part of the bridge where the drop is smaller for more timid participants – a brilliant challenge that will grow your child’s confidence.
We have a licence awarded to us by the Peak District National Park Authority to use this 1ooft disused rail bridge for abseiling. The bridge structure is periodically check for safety by the National Park.
Totally unique and in a beautiful woodland setting, this is one of our most popular activities and suit able for any age or ability.

Experience the beauty of the Peak District as you walk through her valleys and over her hills. Be guided by a local expert who can inform you on the local history, geology and culture of the area. Walks can be combined with a challenge element such a small scrambles or visits to little known features. All Trekking is tailored to a length and difficulty that suits you and your little ones.
All of our activities are tailored to your needs and we can devise a walk which will suit your needs. Perhaps your child is interested in wild flowers or wildlife? we can take in a walk which will accommodate their interests. Family Weaselling

Family Weaselling
Family Adventures Peak District
Weaselling is unique to the Peak District due to the way local rocks have formed millions of years ago and then become piled on one another. The gaps and mini caves that these formations leave are a great place for adventures. Think of it as caving but not underground. This activity is loads of fun and can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.
Weaselling is also an introduction to mountaineering and we can focus on very basic climbing techniques and tips. Weaselling is done as a team so this is a great family bonding activity as you will all have to help and support each other through this, physically and emotionally.
Our Weaselling takes place in awe inspiring hill and moorland scenery.

We have 10 years of experience in delivering high quality, fun and adventurous activities to all abilities. We pride ourselves on delivering tailor made packages to suit your needs. We aim to take the hassle out of booking an amazing day out and we can also include activities which are not listed on our website – just ask. All our activities are in the beautiful Peak District, easy to get to and get around.
Our instructors are all highly qualified local experts who are selected not only for their vast experience, but also for their calm, approachable manner and ability to relate well to people.
I’m an absolute beginner – is this for me?
Yes – we specialise in introducing people to outdoor climbing for the first time.
Is equipment included?
Yes, all equipment is included in the price.
Can you tailor the Family Adventure to our needs?
Yes, this is what we do. Our courses have structure but are very flexible and really, all our activities and training courses are flexible and adaptable. This is your day, not ours.
Where will we Do the Activities?
We have a range of venues around the Peak District but none of them are more then a 30 minute drive from each other and some are just a five minute drive apart.
I’m not very fit – can I still do this?
Of course you can. We are very used to dealing with people of all ability and fitness. We can tailor your booking to suit you.
Can I do a half day instead of a full day?
Yes – the duration can be as short or long as you like and the price of your booking will reflect that. You can also do multiple days.
Do you provide transport?
I’m afraid we cannot provide transport, you will need your own. Speak to us about public transport options.
